Wild Ginger is a member of the Birthwort family. It is a strange flower, nesting in the crotch of two leafstalks which are at ground level. The flower itself is quite hairy with three pointed reddish calyx lobes. The leaves are quite large and shaped like a heart. The stalks are also very hairy and the plant's height ranges from 6 to 12 inches. Wild Ginger is found only in the wooded rich soils.
