Fiddleheads, while not a wildflower, may be
of some interest to those who seek out wildflowers, since inevitably, one
will stumble across them while looking for early spring flowers.
Fiddleheads represent the emergent ferns.
They poke through the rich forest soil about the middle of May, and if
they're able to escape the grasp of someone with gastronomical designs,
they will eventually carpet the forest floor as ferns.
