This flower is similar to the
Trout Lily or Adder's Tongue but the leave characteristics are slightly
different. The Bellwort leaf does not have the mottled purplish colouring
of the Trout Lily. As well, the Bellwort flower is slightly larger in size.
The Bellwort belongs to the Lily family.
This Bellwort was found along
an old abandoned railway line bordering a marshy area where the soil was
moist and rich. Bellworts inhabit the same environments or habitats as
Trilliums and are often times just as abundant.
Above, an example of the Perfoliate
Bellwort.
